Volunteers clean beaches in Panama

09/26/2011 By Panama Eric

(Prensa.com) About 4,000 volunteers spread this morning about 50 beaches in the country during the XX National Cleanup Day Beaches, Coasts and Rivers.

In Panama Viejo had about 500 volunteers, including many students from different high schools. Amid the morning rain, youth and other cleaning workers took to the beach and within minutes their cartridges were filled with plastic bottles, glass, cardboard, cartridges and other waste.

Car tires, washing machines, refrigerators and chairs were other chécheres they drew from the abundant litter that lay on the shore.

Last year we managed to collect 69 000 958 pounds of trash throughout the country.
