(Isla Palenque) Video contest calls for young adults nationwide to prove their passion for adventure and sustainability.
The Resort at Isla Palenque, an Amble Resort, is pleased to announce their Island Intern Contest. The eco-luxury resort seeks collegiate and post graduate students with a passion for sustainable travel and adventure to apply to be the first intern on tropical Isla Palenque, an island located in the Gulf of Chiriqui, Panama.
The winner will receive the opportunity to live on the island for 4-6 weeks with all expenses paid including travel, lodging, and adventure activities. In addition, the intern will receive a $2,500 stipend. To apply, contestants must submit a YouTube video stating why they would be the best Island Intern.
This summer, the winner will photograph, film and blog about their experience on Isla Palenque, as a living testament of Amble Resortsâ mission to provide authentic, environmentally and culturally sustainable travel experiences. Amble President, Benjamin Loomis, hopes that the contest will bring awareness to sustainable destinations. âWeâre looking for an on-island perspective from someone passionate about communicating to the world what itâs like to visit a place whose rich natural characteristics are worthy of preservation,â says Loomis. âWe hope the intern will provide a glimpse into the spectacular character of Isla Palenque, and be the first in a long history of visitors who will find meaning and vitality here.â
Loomis will lead a distinguished panel of contest judges, including: Horst Schulze, former Ritz Carlton CEO and founder of The West Paces Hotel Group; Richard Shaw, a principle at sustainable planning firm, Design Workshop, who led the work on Isla Palenqueâs award-winning Master Plan; and Chris Tackett, Social Media Editor at Treehugger.com, the leading media outlet dedicated to driving sustainability mainstream.
In addition to the judges, influential voices of the travel and sustainability industries will provide valuable feedback for the eager, adventure-hungry contestants. The panel includes experts from The International Ecotourism Society, Terracurve, Gadling, Treehugger, Vagabondish, Mother Nature Network, Ecorazzi, Justmeans, The Examiner, Tourdust and OceanHome Magazine.
Submissions open February 15, 2011 and voting begins March 28, 2011. Ten finalists will be chosen on April 11, 2011; one finalist will be chosen for gaining the most views on Youtube, four finalists will be chosen for gaining the most votes on the contest website, and five finalists will be chosen by the panel of judges and experts. The ten finalists will then compete in a more intimate round of competition including a blogging opportunity and Skype interview with Amble representatives. The Island Intern will be announced May 2, 2011. Visit the contest website for more information on the internâs responsibilities, rewards, requirements, terms and conditions and/ or to view the contestant videos.
Loomis concludes, âAt the end of the summer, we want to send off this young visionary with an expanded world view and a willingness to preserve and share naturally and culturally significant places like Isla Palenque. This will be a voice the world needs to hear; I canât wait to watch the videos roll in.â
