Ricardo Martinelli, or @rmartinelli, has joined the tweeting revolution.
In his first tweet, dated February 11, 2011, the Panamanian president says hello and tells his followers that “working together, we are going to change Panama.”
As of 3 p.m., February 13, Martinelli already had more than 1,200 followers and is following TVN Panama, Telemetro, RCM Noticias, Panama Twittea, CNN, Felipe Calderon, Juan Carlos Varela and Barack Obama.
Twitter has become quite popular as a way for Latin American heads of state to communicate with the people. Official accounts include Hugo Chavez of Venezuela @chavezcandanga, Sebastian Pinera of Chile @sebastianpinera, Christina Fernandez de Kirchner of Argentina @CFKArgentina, and Felipe Calderon of Mexico @FelipeCalderon.
