Repairs on Panama’s Centennial Bridge road to take months

(PanamaAmerica) Public Works Minister, Federico Suarez, said that repairing the access road to the Centennial Bridge that collapsed due to water saturation in the ground could take months.
Smith reiterated that the crossing of the Centennial Bridge will remain open only for small vehicles, but in a controlled manner.

But citizens who asked not to be necessary to refrain from leaving for the interior of the Republic or beaches in order to prevent the return traffic is getting worse by the Bridge of the Americas or route Centenario.

“This is a situation never before experienced,” said Suarez, urged patience while the drivers who pass through the Bridge of the Americas has become the only alternative heavy equipment vehicles.
He also emphasized that the Centenario bridge structure has not been damaged, “the bridge is a separate structure to access and is a perfect sound,” said the head of Public Works.

As for the results of technical evaluations, Suarez said not yet have a final analysis, however, said later about responsibility and whether or not there good design of the work.

Suarez’s statements came after a tour for evaluation and the administrator of the Panama Canal Authority, German Alberto Zubieta and the president of the Panamanian Society of Engineers and Architects (SPIA), Miriam Solis.
