Rains cause flooding in Panama City, Colón

07/07/2011 By Panama Eric

(Prensa.com) Heavy rains caused flooding in both Panama City and Colón on Wednesday afternoon.
In Colón, the rains resulted in 25 homes being flooded in the community of San Pedro. Inés Batalla, one of those affected by the flooding, said that the area usually has problems with flooding during periods of heavy rains.
Representative Tilio Meneses, who arrived to survey the damage in the afternoon, said he will make a request for $2.5 million from the federal government to address the problem.
In Panama City, heavy flooding was reported along Calle 50, as well as in Punta Pacifica and Calidonia.
The flooding impacted the opening of the Trump Ocean Club in Punta Paitilla as well, as journalists attending the opening found they were stranded by the high waters.
Witnesses said that, on some streets, cars were stranded by the flooding, and that only 4×4 vehicles could pass.
