(prensa.com) The golden frog, the bougainvilleas or bougainvillea, Motmot bird, toucan, square trees and orchids are among the names that the Chamber of Tourism and the community of El Valle de Anton plan to use to name the streets of the picturesque village coclesano.
According to a map obtained from the Comptroller of the Republic, requested by the Chamber of Tourism, El Valle de Anton is a town of streets without names. In fact, only three are identified, the Avenida Central, Calle Los Guayacanes and Los Millonarios, and even errors were detected, said the House speaker, Michael Ducharme.
The start of debate
In 2008, conducted a community discussion in which they agreed to use the names of species of flora and fauna for the nomenclature.
Jose Fernandez, a spokesman for the community, said the idea was to use the area’s biodiversity and highlight its benefits thus tourism.
At first even raised the possibility of using names of politicians or personalities, but the suggestion was rejected.
Fernandez said that naming the streets is vital, because many tourists come to the region and are confused when they try to get to a place that is not clearly marked.
Beyond tourism, for entities such as the Fire Department or the National System of Civil Protection, the identification of a street is a matter of urgency because it will reach the destination faster.
Interest
El Valle de Anton is situated in an old crater surrounded by lush vegetation and a tremendous biodiversity.
Mario Urriola, a biologist and president of the Committee on Sustainable Tourism in El Valle, said that the region has recorded some 410 bird species, including endemic.
Urriola said his group supports the measure to use names of plants and animals for the nomenclature, since tourists may find it more attractive than the names of individuals or political.
“The tourist is not interested in politics, but do know the flower of the Holy Spirit or a golden frog, for example,” he said.
The biologist argues that according to records in the Valley there are 60 species of amphibians and reptiles, some 70 mammal species, 11 freshwater fish and 300 butterfly.
The plan
The project, said Ducharme, has consulted extensively to commit as few errors as possible.
The Advisory Group KG Media Group, specializing in maps, aerial photographs were taken and plotted Valley Street lines.
After all this effort, the Chamber now has a sketch of the streets and their names. Each will be identified with a wooden plaque and the figure of the target species.
The plates, of course, be made by the United Artisans Association of El Valle de Anton.
The plan provides for marking and naming some 30 streets. Among the suggested names are toucan, golden frog, hawk, hawk, hummingbird, Mamoto, heron, woodpecker, pigeon, owl, frog, flycatchers, swallows, blood bull and tiles, among many others.
Among the names of plants and trees selected are espave, medlar, flower of the Holy Spirit, orchids, begonias, white cane, rose apple, among others.
On this measure, Robert Barnett, the Municipal Engineering Department, said he had no objection.
However, the official said the proposal to succeed, the streets must have a width of 10 meters 80 centimeters, as established by the regulatory plan of the Ministry of Housing, 2002.
Once the municipality receives the proposal, it should be an inspection to verify this. Failure to comply with this rule, the streets will become part of an alley or driveway.
The regulatory plan prepared Valley in May 2001 lists the site as an area developed with the concept of low-density urban residential.
