Drug seizures made by security forces in the last 24 hours have pushed Panama’s drug seizures for the year to almost 33 tons.
The largest drug bust over the weekend took place Saturday in Narganá, the Darién, when a boat with three outboard engines was found with 1.5 tons of cocaine inside, according to Board Patrol Director Frank Ábrego. He did not release any further details about the seizure.
On Saturday afternoon, Aeronaval officers exchanged gunfire with drug traffickers in the Bahia Piña. That incident resulted in one of the suspects being killed, and two others being arrested, one of whom was also shot.
Police did not release the amount of drugs captured as the report on the incident was not yet completed.
In the third incident, two people were arrested at Tocumen International Airport with 91 wrappers of cocaine. Their names were not released.
