(prensa.com) National Police Director Gustavo Pérez said that about 8,000 people have been arrested on outstanding warrants since police started using handheld devises called “Pele Police” to check identifications.
Pérez said that some 2 million people have been checked with the devices since they went into use last year.
The director added that their use has had a direct impact on crime, as Panama’s crime rate has dropped 35 percent since they went into use.
Pérez made those statements Wednesday during the funeral for officer Juan Samaniego, who was killed in the line of duty on Monday in Colón.
