(prensa.com) “The registration of vessels under Panamanian sovereignty increased 9% over the past two years, said today, Wednesday, the administrator of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP), Roberto Linares.
The official said these latest figures, Panama has 8 000 897 ships over 100 gross registered tons, representing more than 738 units in 2008, when 159 were reported 8 000 boats.
In this regard, Linares commented that it “is a great achievement that demonstrates the efficiency and adaptability of the Panamanian registry, in addition to the confidence our customers have to follow us,” he said.
These remarks came during a meeting between officials of Panama and the director of Business Development, Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Qatar, Nassir Jarallah Al-Marri.
For its part, the Qatari senior official described as positive the development of the merchant marine and Panamanian ports and expressed his country’s interest for closer bilateral relations between two countries.
Al-Marri also announced the upcoming visit of a high-level official delegation that will arrive this year in Panama, in order to explore joint projects in the maritime and port sector and in infrastructure projects, agriculture and trade.
