(prensa.com) Vice-President and Foreign Minister, Juan Carlos Varela, said that Panama has seen a decrease in crime rates as of late, highlighting that the current government administration has confiscated an estimated 100 tons of drugs during its office.
Varela made theses remarks during a private meeting with the presidents of the countries that make up the Central-American Integration System (SICA), according to a press release.
The meeting was held in Guatemala, within the framework of the visit by United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, to that country.
Varela also took the opportunity to highlight that the security strategy of the Panamanian government is based on three pillars: a ring of security around the country, changing the lives of the inhabitants of poor neighborhoods, and strengthening security sectors and judicial institutions.
The Chancellor was accompanied on this official mission by Deputy Foreign Minister, Álvaro Alemán; Ambassador of Panama in Guatemala, Dionisio De Gracia; and Special Envoy and Assistant Foreign Minister, Raúl Sandoval.
