Although Panama receives more visitors from the United States than any other country, it is a relatively unknown destination for groups organizing business meetings or conventions.
But that could change due to a tax treaty that Panama recently signed with the U.S. This treaty will allow U.S. businesses to claim a tax deduction expenditures related to organizing events in Panama.
That change has prompted the Panama Tourism Authority to prepare a campaign that will start in January aimed at promoting the country as a place to hold international events.
The authority will be working with American Airlines to promote the idea of holding conventions in the city. The government also wants to build a new convention center to host large events that would complement its existing facility, the Atlapa Convention Center.
