(prensa.com) The government will begin providing free insurance coverage for visitors arriving at Tocumen International Airport starting Jan. 15.
On Monday, the Comptroller’s Office endorsedĀ an agreement between the Tourism Authority of Panama and insurance provider Generali. The annual budget for this insurance is $4 million.
In accordance with the contract, Generali will ensure each tourist for $1.95. Each visitor will receive a pamphlet containing an identification card for beneficiaries.
This card must be presented together with a passport if a person seeks medical care. The policy covers medical expenditures up to $7,000, and overseas transportation up to $40,000. It also has $20,000 in coverage in the event a visitor dies while here.
The coverage lasts 30 days.
The policy is void if the person is injured while consuming drugs or under the influence of alcohol. Also exempt are extreme sports and natural phenomenon.
