(prensa.com) Panamanian surfer Gary Saavedra broke two world records Saturday while surfing behind a boat on Lake Gatún.
Saavedra surfed on a wake created by a powerboat for three hours and 55 minutes for distance of 41.3 miles, both world records for surfing behind a static wave.
“I am very happy to have been able to achieve this,” said the surfer, who confessed that he was exhausted afterward.
The previous records were held by British athlete Steve King, who surfed a static wave for one hour and six minutes in 2006.
Saavedra has been training for the attempt for months. He said the task was complicated by the high winds and changing waves, especially in the first hour.
