(Panama Digest) The World Bank has given Panama $10.2 million towards the eradication of HIV and AIDS.
Starting in 2012, the money will be used to provide free testing to pregnant women and at risk populations, contribute to organizations working on prevention, create public awareness and provide condoms.
There are 16,500 people living with HIV-AIDS in Panama – 10,500 with AIDS and 6,000 with HIV. Last year, 85 women were diagnosed with the virus, and only eight of them transmitted it to their children.
