The tournament, held in Panama, pitted seven Central-American teams against each other to compete for the five available slots to participate in the follow-up Gold Cup, to be held in June in the United States.
Panama secured a spot in the Gold Cup after defeating Nicaragua 2-0, with goals by Armando Cooper and Luis Rentería.
With these results, Panama and El Salvador lead Category A with six points each, followed by Nicaragua and Belize, with zero. In Group B, Costa Rica secured its spot with four points, ranking first in that group, which also includes Honduras, with one point, and Guatemala, with zero.
