Following a meeting with the mayors of Bugaba and Boquete, Joaquín Castillo y Manolo Ruiz, respectively, authorities of the national tourism, environment, and civil protection entities, informed that, in order to safeguard the lives of tourists and residents of the sector, it was necessary to prohibit the transit through the trail until it is repaired.
The Quetzal Trail, which crosses the Barú Volcano National Park between the districts of Cerro Punta (Bugaba) and Bajo Boquete, is one of the most visited eco-tourism attractions in the region, but like other sectors, was damaged by the excessive rains that fell in the country last November.
Castillo and Ruiz pledged to abide by Resolution ARACH-001-2011, which was issued by the National Environmental Authority (ANAM), with the aim of empowering national police officers and judges to monitor and fine those who cross the path.
