(Successful Meetings) In recent years, Panama has experienced double-digit growth in its meetings and conventions business. In the years ahead, that growth is likely to continue thanks to a new convention center that’s opening in Panama City, according to Marketing Challenges International (MCIntl), Panama’s North American sales and marketing partner, which this week announced a 2015 opening for the new venue.
Although a specific date has not been announced, when it opens the $193 million convention center will be Panama’s largest, with 570,505 square feet of meeting space, including a banquet hall, exhibition hall and conference facilities, as well as a grand plaza, outdoor amphitheater and a 1,500-seat performing arts theater — all located on the banks of the Panama Canal.
To drive business to the new convention center, the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP) is currently offering incentives to companies and organizations to host their meetings in Panama, including a welcome cocktail event and folklore show showcasing Panamanian culture. Until the new convention center opens, Panama City’s venue, the ATLAPA Convention Center, is being offered free to organizers of events who meet a minimum quota of participants.
