Panama heat wave forces citizens to change their habits

05/10/2011 By Panama Eric

(Prensa.com) The high temperatures registering in Panama in recent days can be attributed to the fact that the sun is closer to the earth (just 15 degrees from north latitude); position at which the rays strike almost directly on the position in which the country is located.

To this, we must add the high pressure system located south of the Greater Antilles, said José Garcela, from the hydro-meteorology department of the electricity transmission company of Panama, ETESA.

In the face of this situation, some citizens have taken to increasing their water consumption to offset the heat. Others keep the air conditioner on wherever and whenever they can: from the car to the office, and from the office, home.

Yesterday, Monday, the provinces that recorded the highest temperatures were: Los Santos and Herrera, at 32 and 33 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Forecasts from ETESA indicate that the coming days will continue to see high temperatures.
