(prensa.com) The Ministry of Health has started cleanup efforts to repair the damage caused by severe flooding that impacted numerous parts of the country over the last week.
In the Tonosi Valley in the province of Los Santos, the ministry estimates that some 1,500 people were impacted by the flooding of the Tonosi River.
Kenia Zambrano, health director for Los Santos, said homeowners are being provided with cleaning supplies to help sanitize their homes.
Health authorities are worried about the risk of disease spreading in areas impacted by the flood waters, which reached five feet in some cases. There is a large amount of standing water, which has raised concerns about mosquitoes.
The ministry is also distributing bottled water and conducting inspections of restaurants and grocery stores to ensure they are complying with proper health standards.
