Difficult times but Canal revenue continues to climb
Panama Canal toll revenues were up 3 percent to $1,482 billion in the fiscal year that ended September 30.
The figure does not include revenue from other sources like maritime services and the sale of electricity.
The Canal also saw an increase in cargo shipments for with 1.6 million more tons of cargo transported through the Canal, for a total of 300,700,000 tons.
“We are pleased to have passed the 300-million-ton mark in a difficult year for the global economy,” said Canal Administrator Alberto Alemán Zubieta. “We hope to maintain that growth as the global economy continues to show positive signs”
