(Panama Digest) Traveling by public transportation outside of Panama City will cost up to 21 percent more than it did.
Panama’s Transit and Ground Transportation authorized the temporary increase on Saturday as an urgent measure to respond to increases in gas prices and to avoid a transportation strike.
With the increase, it will cost passengers traveling from Panama to Bocas del Toro by bus $29.04 instead of $24; and $15.25 instead of $12.50 between Panama and David; or say $9.68 instead of $8 from Panama to Las Tablas.
The increase will remain in place until the transportation authority is able to review the rates. These were last reviewed in 2005 and by law should be revised every five years.
Panama City and San Miguelito bus routes are the only ones not to be affected by the increase since they are transitioning to the Metro Bus system, but all taxi rates will.
