(Prensa.com) The wetland Panama Bay regained its status as a protected area.
Yesterday, the Third Chamber of the Supreme Court reinstated the validity of Resolution AG-0072-2009 of the National Environmental Authority (ANAM), which had been rescinded an earlier ruling in the same room (issued nearly a year) because, as argued at the time, was not a public consultation on which that the declaration of the protected area.
The Third Chamber now changed his mind, as he says, “have brought new arguments or elements that lead to this court to lift the temporary suspension of the defendant act” which is Resolution AG-0072-2009.
The Panama Bay wetland comprises the area from the East Coast, in the capital, to the estuary in Chimán. This is an area of 85 000 652 hectares: 36 000 691 correspond to land surface and 45 000 960, a marina.
The ruling yesterday, April 4, recognizes the “special ecological importance” of the wetland and Panama joined the Ramsar Convention.
“This Chamber warns that the Panama Bay wetland is an area of natural vegetation cover, so it is necessary to promote the conservation, protection and management for sustainable use of present and future generations,” said the fault that carries judges signing Victor Benavides (rapporteur), Luis Ramon Fabrega and Hernán De León.
