Minister of Trade and Industry, Roberto Henríquez, made an announcement yesterday informing of the Panamanian government’s intentions to sign a free trade agreement with Israel.
Meanwhile, the Embassy of Israel in Panama reported that the two countries are currently exploring the month of March 2011 as the beginning of the negotiation period towards an agreement to avoid double taxation.
Henríquez’s statement came during a meeting with members of the Panama-Israel Chamber of Commerce, representatives of Israeli and Panamanian companies alike, and Israel’s ambassador in the country, Yoed Magen.
This meeting reportedly was aimed at strengthening trade relations between both nations.
During the meeting, the Panamanian minister also expressed his interest in extending the trade and economic cooperation agreement between the two countries, in force since Oct. 6, 2010.
Ambassador Magen detailed various economic projects that the Israeli Government intends to develop in 2011, including the visit of a delegation of Israeli technology companies to Panama.
