(prensa.com) A new earthquake was registered in the Republic of Panama yesterday, Feb. 22, 2011. This one – the ninth to hit the country so far in February, was detected in the “fracture zone” (in the Pacific, off the coast of Chiriquí) with a magnitude of 4.2 on the Richter scale, as per the records of the Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama.
According to the report, the tremor occurred at 2:56 a.m. and was located at coordinates 6.16 ° N, 82.7 ° W at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Of the nine quakes to shake Panama this month, the one with the highest magnitude occurred on Feb. 7 in Puerto Armuelles, which reached 5.2 on the Richter scale at a depth of 4.5 kilometers, according to the data provided on the website of the institute.
