Shock low bid for management of Metro bus system
The Panama Card consortium shocked other bidders when it presented its proposal to become the financial manager of Metro Bus program for the next 15 years.
The bid was for $9.9 million nearly $10 million less than the other three bidders
This, says La Prensa caused astonishment during a ceremony in the Office of the Presidency. The reference price given by the state was $15 million, and none of the other three participants bid less than $19 million.
The evaluating committee will have until Oct. 14 to award the contract, which will go into effect in December when the first 120 buses will begin operating on the Corredor Sur.
The new system will have 1,200 buses and the operate who gets the management contract will be responsible for managing the collection systemand issuing cards which will be used to gain access to the buses for tickets. The contract will last for 15 years.
