Heavy rains bring destruction to Panama

On Monday October 3rd Heavy rains brought down one of the bridges located on the Chico River in the province of Chiriqui.(Prensa.com) The Director General of Civil Protection National System (SINAPROC), Arturo Alvarado, said a weather system is affecting the Republic of Panama.

Speaking on Rangefinder Reports, Alvarado explained that in Cocle top border with Columbus, was a landslide that hit two people who were taking gold from a hillside. One of those affected died.

In the metropolitan area, meanwhile, encumbrances have been filed in the sector of Samaria and Sugar Loaf. While roofs were landslides in the area of ​​Veracruz.

In Chiriqui, the authorities say that the rains have decreased in intensity, however, there are also reports of landslides in the district of Alanje and the road from Bocas del Toro Chiriqui, where traffic was disrupted.

Governor of Chiriqui, Aixa Santamaría, said he is moving team from the Ministry of Public Works to the road Chiriqui-Bocas, to reopen this important route as soon as possible.

BRIDGE REOPENS

Meanwhile, the Sinaproc announced that ordered the reopening of the bridge over the Rio Chico, in the district of Boqueron, on the Panamerican Highway.

The opening took place at 5:45 pm on Saturday, after it remained closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic for 45 minutes, Sinaproc recommendations, as the rains had increased their volume and velocity of the water.

On Monday October 3, one of the bridges over the River Chico (the oldest) collapsed after a storm that struck the province of Chiriqui, which claimed the life of a person. The situation prompted the Sinaproc declare a state of emergency in the districts of Bugaba, Boqueron, Alanje Dolega and Boquete.
