At home, the figures are clear, women are in a very marked inequality in relation to men.
The standard of living is where you can still perceive greater inequities in the nation. According to statistics from the State, the women received an income equivalent to 57% of income of the gentlemen in the year 2008, which was even lower in 2001 with 51%. All distances in income between men and women vary between 33% and 70% difference in 2008, which highlight the entry as an element that maintains economic inequality for women, with the consequent effect on their standard of living.
In terms of decision making and participation in the public sphere, it also keeps the inequality between the sexes. Thus, only 11.2% of the seats of political representation are occupied by females, with a range from 0% in the worst case, 19%, at best. This confirms once again the exclusion of them in making decisions.

On the economic side, the females are entering en masse in the technical, professional, coming to occupy an average of 52% of these positions, confirming the increase of educational level. Note that in the last decade women have made progress in administrative positions, and access to a lesser extent than men to senior management.
In health, are in bad note, as in the country the level of maternal mortality at the time of birth is very high, especially in the districts in the provinces of Bocas del Toro and Darien. In many cases is due to poor access to specialized health centers.
International agencies like the Organization of the United Nations call upon States to establish long-term policies to improve the situation of women, as investing in the education of girls and women’s empowerment through participation in employment and politics has multiple and severe shocks. Because women get access to education means breaking a link in the chain of poverty that would otherwise this is perpetuated from generation to generation.
