(Panama Digest) Information technology multinational Dell Inc. is investing $13 million in its Panama operations.
This investment includes the construction of a new 53,800 square-foot building in Panama Pacifico on the former Howard Air Force Base, designed to international green standards.
Dell established its operations in Panama in 2003 with 500 workers. It now employs over 2,000 and puts around $60 million a year back into the Panamanian economy, according to a government release.
“Let’s hope that this $13 million investment that represents the creation of some 500 new jobs duplicates itself and we reach more that 5,000 jobs,” President Ricardo Martinelli said at a groundbreaking ceremony for Dell’s new building on Tuesday.
