Customs officials seize over $269K at Tocumen airport

01/20/2011 By Panama Eric

(prensa.com) National customs authority ANA informed on Wednesday that officials from the entity seize $269,560 that was not declared by travelers upon entering the Tocumen International Airport.

According to ANA, the last case of undeclared funds occurred on Tuesday night and involved a Colombian national arriving from Bogotá, who wanted to enter the country with $21,060.

According to the customs inspector, the traveler appeared to be restless and nervous, which prompted the official to carry out a more stringent inspection, during which it was revealed that the traveler in fact had hidden money dispersed among his clothes and in his luggage.

Meanwhile, other cases involved a Haitian woman, who was found with $90,500 in undeclared funds, and an Argentine national, traveling from Mexico, who attempted to enter Panama without declaring $158,000.
