(prensa.com) At a cost of $1.5 million, the government of Panama plans to build a convention center in the city of Las Tablas, located in the province of Los Santos.
This, according to an announcement by legislator Carlos Afú, who at the start of the renowned parade of the “Pollera” (traditional colonial garb of Panama), said “we are going to build a convention center,” to which President of the Republic, Ricardo Martinelli, replied that “no one could oppose such a good and important project.”
Martinelli recalled that Las Tablas used to be a major tourist destination and is considered the cradle of Panamanian folklore.
Afú further asserted that the Pollera parade, which was previously celebrated in Panama City, was organized in Las Tablas in approximately a month and a half.
The official went on to say that he is committed to building a museum in the region that is dedicated to the Pollera and the artisans that make them.
