Cocaine found in statue of the Virgin Mary

02/18/2011 By Panama Eric

(Prensa.com) Earlier this week, upon breaking a statue of the Virgin Mary in two, Panamanian police found an unspecified quantity of cocaine from Costa Rica, which was bound for Madrid, Spain, reported an official source.

The discovery of illicit drugs inside the religious statue occurred on Tuesday in the storage facility of a freight company, located in the cargo area of Tocumen International Airport in Panama City, explained the National Police in a statement.

Although the police did not specify what exactly caused them to make this finding, it is normal that drug-sniffing dogs performpreventive checks of the cargo tanks.

Once uncovered, the illegal substance was confiscated and delivered to the Public Ministry, where an investigation into the case is now underway.
