(News Blaze) The citizens of Panama today celebrated the country’s 108th anniversary of independence.
The U.S. dominant influence in Panama can be seen in the country’s sports. Baseball is considered the National Sport of Panama and has regional teams and a national team that represents them in international events, according to Wikipedia.
US Department Spokesperson, Victoria Nuland, speaking in Washington, DC, extended the congratulations of President Obama and the people of the United States, to the people of Panama.
Ms. Nuland higlighted that from the construction of the Panama Canal that began more than a century ago to the recent signing of the U.S.-Panama Trade Promotion Agreement, both countries have developed deep cultural, economic, and familial ties.

She stressed that the bonds continue to provide a firm foundation for their close cooperation. She said the American people look forward to deepening their partnership as they continue to promote economic growth and opportunity, social and economic inclusion, and a more secure and democratic future for our peoples.

Panama’s economy has experienced an economic boom in recent years with growth in real gross domestic product. The country’s economy has been among the fastest growing and best managed in Latin America. According to Latin Business Chronicle, it has predicted that Panama will be the fastest growing economy in Latin America in the five-year period 2010-14.
