(prensa.com) The administrator of the Panama Tourism Authority, Salomón Shamah, defended on Friday his decision to hold the Panama City Carnival on the Cinta Costera.
Shamah said the event would take place between the Seafood Market and Calle 30.
“The Cinta Costera is a beautiful place where we can attract tourists,” he said..
The move had been opposed by the Ministry of Public Works, which feared that the recreation areas of the Cinta Costera would be ruined by the festivities, and in particular the water trucks that douse the crowd during the day.
But Shamah said that the appropriate measures will be taken to prevent any damage.
The event has a budget of $1.5 million which was authorized on Feb. 1 by the Cabinet Council. It will take place during the first week of March.
The other location that had been considered was Via Espana.
