(PrnoticiasPanama) Former convents, and buildings of San Felipe are maintained by specialized teams of the Office of the Casco Antiguo (OCA), which are responsible for providing proper treatment to remove the vegetation that grows on them and for conducting assessments in looking for structural defects and other abnormalities.
Dario Cadavid engineer, technical director of the OCA, said that factors such as climate, proximity to the sea transport of seeds by birds, as well as man-made and the materials with which these buildings were built, among other variables make it necessary that there are actions like this that runs with the Program Maintenance and Preservation of Monuments.
He explained that studies have determined that these works should be implemented at least every four months, taking into account the transition period between rainy and dry, and vice versa, in order to identify those marked stages of vulnerability, and have the opportunity to physically view the damages that occur in buildings.
Noted that as part of this action is poisoned vegetation growing on the walls to weaken and then proceed with a delicate removal of the plants, taking into account the instability of the sites.
Similarly, the staff is responsible for detecting the damages that may exist in the structures, in order to proceed to consolidate those items more unstable and thus avoid structural damage.
Crews perform maintenance work on sites OCA as the Convent of Santo Domingo (Archo Chato), the Society of Jesus, the Baluarte Mano de Tigre, the Maison de France in addition to providing assistance to other institutions of the area and request.
