Officially the currency is the Balboa however it exists only in coinage and is identical in size to the U.S. coinage. Panama does not print Balboa bills but instead uses American paper currency. The currency also helps explain why Panama has such a low inflation rate and is the most stable economy in Latin America. Panama experienced less than 2% inflation increase over the past 40 years; some of the lowest known.
